Low Back Pain
One in four Americans suffer with low back pain and the majority of us will experience an acute episode at some point in our lives. There are many causes for low back pain, the most common are: muscle strain/ligament sprain, disc herniations, degenerative spine (arthritis), and spinal joint dysfunction (hypomobile or locked joint). Frequently, a low back condition can also cause leg pain, weakness or numbness. Our office can diagnose and treat these common low back problems.
Neck Pain
Due to the nature of today’s lifestyle we are all vulnerable to neck pain at some time in our life. There are many causes of neck pain resulting from injury, poor posture, over-use and stress. Some of the most common causes are muscle strain, ligament sprain, disc herniations, degenerative spine (arthritis) and spinal joint dysfunction (hypomobile or locked joint). Oftentimes the neck pain will cause headaches, arm pain and arm numbness or weakness. Our office can diagnose and treat these common causes of neck and arm pain.
Headaches
Headaches are usually a warning sign that something is out of balance. The two most common types are tension headaches and migraines. Although pain relievers may help temporarily, they probably will not correct the underlying causes. Even though the pain is in the head, the root of the problems may be in your neck. For example, poor posture, fatigue and stressful situations can trigger a tension or muscle type of headache. Social habits such as smoking, caffeine, alcohol and MSG along with stress can trigger a migraine or vascular type headache. Our office will evaluate your headache to determine what treatment approach would be best for your problem.
Sports Injuries
Whether you are a weekend warrior or a highly trained and conditioned athlete, sports injuries happen to all of us. Depending on your specific sport or performing arts (dance, theater) the most common sites of injury include the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle. Rotator cuff syndrome, tennis elbow, runner’s knee and ankle sprains are some common conditions routinely treated in our office. We are experienced and well equipped to evaluate, treat and manage your athletic injury.
Auto & Work Injuries
Because we are such a mobile and hard working society, car accidents and work site injuries are inevitable. For example, a whiplash injury to the neck is a common result from a rear-end or front-end collision. Besides experiencing neck pain and stiffness, whiplash injuries can also cause dizziness, numbness, nausea and blurred vision, among other symptoms. Worksite injuries often result from repetitive overuse activities or from improper lifting. Common work site injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome and low back pain. Our office has been evaluating and treating various types of auto and work related injuries for over 20 years with great success.
Treatment Plan
Improvement depends on many factors, such as: "How long has the condition been present?", "What caused the problem in the first place?" and "How well will I follow the advice of the doctor?" Other factors include lifestyle, posture, weight, age, occupation, fitness level and genetics. However, it has been our experience that most people respond favorably within 6 to 10 treatments. A typical treatment plan is 2 times per week for 3 to 5 weeks. As your condition improves, office visits are spaced out accordingly. If there is no improvement following this initial trial of chiropractic treatment then the doctor will discuss with the patient either a change in the treatment approach or a referral to another health care provider. Once the problem has resolved, our office does recommend periodic preventative or maintenance visits. Most people prefer to return monthly or once every 2 months for preventative maintenance treatment. We also understand that health is a personal choice and health maintenance is a concept that is not embraced by everyone. Our goal, beyond treating the condition, is to maintain your health through improved mobility and function.
